WHAT IS A GONG BATH?

A Gong Bath, also know as a Sound Bath, is a class in which gongs, singing bowls, chimes, tuning forks and other instruments are played to encourage deep relaxation or meditation. It's a holistic therapy that works to encourage meditation and relax the mind, body and soul.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

If you're coming to one of our in-person Gong Baths you'll need a yoga mat, pillow, blanket, and some water. Wear comfortable, layered clothes and some warm socks.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A GONG BATH?

When you come to one of our Sound & Gong Baths, you'll come in and set down your mat, pillow and blanket, switch off your phone and make yourself comfy. We'll lower the lights and after a short introduction you'll close your eyes and we will begin to play the gong and bowls.

BENEFITS OF A GONG BATH

For your Mind, Body and Soul

BRAINWAVES

As your ears hear sound vibrations, your brain responds accordingly. Soothing sounds made in a Gong Bath encourage the brain to relax into Alpha and Theta brainwaves.

In this calm state your brain and body are able to experience healing, creativity, improved focus and memory, plus a reduction in stress and anxiety.

In addition, your immune system, digestion, other systems and organs are able to function more effectively as the body can focus on function and healing rather than thinking, reacting and surviving in it's Beta brainwave mode.

Many people find it easier to achieve meditation during a Gong Bath than other relaxing settings, as the sounds played keep the brain engaged in Theta waves more easily - reducing the likelihood of falling asleep during the session (Delta waves) and helping to 'quiet' the mind more quickly.

STRESS HORMONES

The calming effects of a Gong Bath encourage your mind and body to relax and reduce it's 'fight or flight' response to our busy, stressful lives. This lowers your stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline, slowing down your heart rate, your breathing and lowering blood pressure. Deeper, slower breathing will increase oxygen levels to your brain and body, supporting the body's natural functions.

At the same time, your 'happy hormones' which are oxytocin, endorphins, dopamine and serotonin, will be increasing in your body as you relax.

These will leave you feeling more positive, happy, and calm as well as lowering pain levels, tension and inflammation naturally in your body.

During a Gong Bath your body also naturally increases it's melatonin levels which helps your body to regulate sleep, so many people report a better quality, deep sleep that night after a session and sometimes for a few days afterwards too.

CELL REPAIR

Sounds are simply vibrations we interpret through our ears. A number of different sounds and instruments are played during our Gong Baths, so you will experience many different vibrational frequencies washing over you. Different frequencies have been scientifically proven to impact our body in many different ways.

Adult humans are all around 65 - 75% water, and water molecules are naturally cohesive, 'sticking' or 'clumping' together. Some sounds will encourage the water molecules within your body to 'separate', maximising your hydration and supporting effective cell function and repair as water molecules pass more easily through membranes.

Other sounds will stimulate the release of nitric oxide in your body, a natural 'puffing' process which resets each cell to work more efficiently. Certain frequencies will also support DNA repair and cellular regeneration, giving your body opportunity for deep physical healing.

ENERGY

Everything in our world vibrates, physics tells us that all molecules have a vibrational frequency, the human body has vibrational frequencies down to a cellular level. It is also understood that the various energy centres (chakras) in the body have specific and differing frequencies when vibrating at their natural and balanced levels.

Where there is frequency, resonance can be achieved to restore balance. If one note on a guitar is played in a room full of guitars, each guitar will sympathetically vibrate with the same sound of the played note, which is vibrational resonance.

Resonance also occurs during a Gong Bath and in other sound and vibrational therapy treatments. During a Gong Bath, areas of imbalance in your body will naturally resonate with the sounds played, restoring healthy vibrational frequencies in the body's cells, systems and chakras.

I loved it. It filled me with really positive energy, whilst being super relaxing and very calming. After the session I felt a much needed release of emotions, then I slept so deeply. I was the best night's sleep I've had in years. Thanks Gemma.

After just one hour I felt like I'd had 6 hours sleep and the tension in my neck and shoulders had disappeared. The next day my energy was buzzing.

During the session I felt no pain in my legs for the first time in I don't know how long. I'm amazed and will be back regularly.

Wow - I'm not even sure what happened during the session. I don't know whether I was asleep or awake, or tripping! I feel incredible, thanks.
